The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested an Income Tax official (I-TO) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 in the cabin of the I-T building at Bandra-Kurla Complex, in exchange for reducing the complainant’s income tax in her evaluation.
CBI officials revealed they caught I-TO Preeta Babukuttan red-handed accepting the bribe. According to the complaint, the accused had demanded a bribe from the complainant and promised to reduce his income tax from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 55,000. After this, a complaint was registered with the CBI under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and a trap was laid.
“The accused was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 from the complainant, by a team of CBI officials,” said a CBI officer, adding that after the arrest, officials conducted a search at the residence of the accused in Navi Mumbai.
