The Wadala police (Thane rural) arrested the main accused in the gangrape of a 15-year-old girl on Thursday evening.

The police said Ravindra Mukane was planning to flee from Kharivali village.

Medical report of the victim has revealed that she was sexually abused. The police will now send a vaginal swab and clothes of both the accused and the girl to the forensic science laboratory in Kalina.

Police said they were now interrogating Mukane and ascertaining the identities of the others involve in the crime. “Mukane will be produced before a local court on Friday and we will seek his custody,” said SM Ghadge, deputy superintendent of police, Ganeshpuri, Thane Rural.

“We are investigating the case and will catch the other accused soon,” said SP Nishandar, additional superintendent of police, Thane Rural.

According to the police, Mukane was against the girl and his younger brother’s relationship. He had even asked his brother to stay away from her.

Earlier, the police had registered a case against four accused after the girl and her parents lodged a complaint stating she was gang-raped on Sunday.

The girl alleged that she was gagged, assaulted with bricks, raped and then abandoned in a field, police said.
