A 53-year-old man has been booked for allegedly stalking a woman and following her to her workplace in Nariman Point.
“The woman said the accused would come to her office on the pretext of meeting someone. He would keep staring at her. This went on for a few days, after which he started sitting at the woman’s desk. He tried talking to her even though she was ignoring him,” said Pandurang Shinde, senior inspector of police, Marine Drive police station.
The accused then allegedly started following her to the bus stop, and would wait there until her bus came. The woman said the accused has been bothering her for a while, but she approached the police now because she started feeling threatened.
The Marine Drive police booked the man under section 354 D (punishment for person who follows a woman and contacts, or attempts to contact, the woman despite clear indication of disinterest by the woman).
Shinde said a probe is under way to collect evidence against the accused, and until then, no arrests will be made. “The woman’s statement and her description of the situation shows the man may have a psychological problem,” Shinde said.
