The Shivaji Nagar police arrested a man for allegedly showing an obscene clip to an 11-year-old girl at his shop in Govandi.

The accused, Abdullah Jakaullah Usmani, 42, owns a PCO-cum-SIM card recharge shop in Govandi.

The girl visited his shop on Sunday around 11.30 am to get her father’s SIM card recharged.

But instead of serving the customer, he called her inside.

“There he showed her an obscene clip stored in his computer,” said Radheshyam Agarwal, senior police inspector.

Usmani also tried to have an obscene conversation with her.

Terrified, she went home and told her father about Usmani’s behaviour.

“The girl’s father reached Usmani’s shop and confronted him.

Usmani, however, said his computer was turned off then. The girl’s father called Mumbai police woman’s helpline 103. We soon reached the shop and arrested him,” said Agarwal.

The police seized the computer and found the obscene content saved there.

Usmani was produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody until Tuesday.

Police are investigating whether he had tried to lure more girls by showing such clips.

A case has been registered against the accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 293 for sale of obscene objects to a young person, 354 (a) for outraging modesty of a woman, 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.
