Mumbai Metro will on Thursday launch its mobile ticketing application (app), which will not only help commuters buy Metro tickets and get train schedules, but also plan further travel after alighting from Metro.
The app will have information on the taxi, bus and auto-rickshaw stands outside Metro stations. It will also give details on the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, including their route numbers and timings. The app will explain which exit gate of the metro station should be taken to go to a particular area.
Initially, only android device users will be able to use the app. It will eventually be made available on the iOS (iPhone) platform.
The app will alert commuters, in case of a delay in Metro services. Commuters can lodge a complaint or submit suggestions to the Metro administration using one of the features on the app. It will also help commuters who want to use the Metro corridor but stay away from Metro stations by showing them available modes of transport to reach the Metro station closest to them. “We have customised the route-finder, so commuters get to know the best route,” said an official.
