Mumbai: Missing 20-year-old found dead in Ghatkopar

Six days after a 20-year-old went missing from his residence, his body was found in the bushes near a dilapidated building in Ghatkopar (East) on Tuesday.

According to the Pant Nagar police, Divyesh Mehta, a resident of Ramabai Nagar, went missing on November 13. As foul stench started emanating, residents went to the bushes, where they found the fully decomposed body and informed the police.

Mehta was identified with the help of a tattoo on his body. Mehta, who worked at the diamond market, quit his job in Diwali because he was not given bonus. Mehta left his house on November 13, but did not return. A day later, the family members approached the Pant Nagar police and registered a missing person’s complaint.

The police have found a mobile phone near the body. They are looking at the possibility of suicide as well as murder. “There are no injury marks on body. A post-mortem has been conducted and his viscera samples have been preserved for chemical analysis,” said a police officer from Pant Nagar police station.

His family suspects he was murdered. “Divyesh had told his friends he was threatened by a man whom he had fought with a couple of years ago. We have told the police about him,” said his brother Vinay.

The police are looking for witnessed. They have registered a case of accidental death.
