The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Thursday withdrew its opposition against the upcoming ‘Chennai Express’ after the film’s director Rohit Shetty and Sanjay Jadhav, producer-director of Marathi film ‘Duniyadari’, called on Thackeray at his Shivaji Park residence on Thursday afternoon.
The MNS’s film wing, the Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Sena (MNCS), had earlier threatened to block the film’s release based on allegations that the film’s distributors had asked single-screen theatre owners to dislodge ‘Duniyadari’ if they wanted to screen the SRK-starrer.
According to MNCS chief Amey Khopkar, Thackeray has agreed to let ‘Chennai Express’ release if ‘Duniyadari’ was not dislodged from single screens across the state. Khopkar said that Shetty had agreed to release ‘Chennai Express’ in single-screens while ‘Duniyadari’ was playing. “It wasn’t fair to insist that single-screen owners dislodge ‘Duniyadari’,” he said.
