An identification parade of five accused in the Sakinaka rape case involving a 29-year-old model was concluded on Thursday, Mumbai crime branch officials said. The investigators added that the model identified all the accused, including three policemen, during the parade conducted at the Arthur Road prison.
The crime branch had arrested eight people in the case and the identification parade of the remaining three accused will be carried out soon. Those arrested in the case are two assistant inspectors, Sunil Khatpe and Suresh Suryavanshi, constable R Kode and three others --- Sagar, Ibrahim alias Ibbu and Ayesha Malviya.
The officials did not reveal the identities of those identified by the victim since the process of identification is yet to be completed. In her complaint, the victim had told the police that after she was apprehended and brought to the Sakinaka police station, Khatpe took her to a beat chowki in Sangharsh Nagar and allegedly raped her.
There are also some discrepancies in the statements recorded during the investigation and officials have sought the court’s permission to conduct chemical tests on all the accused.
“We have approached the court seeking permission to conduct a lie detector test on all the accused and the court’s decision is awaited. The lie detector test is required as it would help get some clarity on the discrepancies,” said Mohan Dahikar, deputy commissioner of police, crime branch.
