The 43 students of the 2012 MBA batch, who were expelled by the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Science (NMIMS) for allegedly using dummy candidates in their entrance test, will not be able to take their next semester examination scheduled to start on Monday.
The Bombay HC on Sunday refused to grant them interim relief and decided to hear a petition filed by 14 of the 43 students. A division bench of Justice SJ Vazifdar and Justice MS Sonak, however, clarified that the institute would have to hold a special exam, if the bench found merit in their case.
NMIMS has cancelled admissions of 152 candidates from 2011, 2012 and 2013 batches.
According to the students' counsel Shyam Mehta, a counselling agency, Career Guidance, had said they would get students admitted through management quota, which the institute claims doesn't exist. Mehta said the students had completed about 16 months' education.
