The Bazarpeth police in Kalyan cracked a murder and robbery case within five hours on Tuesday, arresting two of the three accused and recovering all the jewellery and cash from them.

PI Ravindra Tyade, Bazarpeth police station, said, “On July 2, a woman, Khusboo Mehta, was found murdered in her flat at Adharwadi chowk in Kalyan.

The woman’s mother found her dead in her flat when she went to enquire after numerous calls to Mehta’s mobile phone went unanswered.

When she reached Mehta’s house, she found the door open and Mehta’s body covered in blood lying on the floor. Inside the flat she found a cupboard and lockers broken into and jewellery missing, police said.

The mother informed her son and Mehta’s husband, who in turn informed the police. PI Ravindra Tyade said Mehta’s husband told the police that in the last two weeks, three people had visited their house offering to paint their house for free of charge. Mehta’s husband gave them a description of the three men.

Three police teams began to work simultaneously on the case. The team in Ambernath received a tip-off, which led them to Abdul Latif Ansari alias Abbu Chavan, 24.

His features matched the description given by Mehta’s husband and he was brought in for questioning.

He confessed to the crime soon after and even named his two accomplices Mohammad Siddhique, 19, and Robin alias Robert Anthony, 26. Anthony is absconding.
