The 33-year-old son of a retired assistant commissioner of police in Mumbai befriended a 15-year-old boy on a social networking website using the fake profile of a girl and eventually sodomised him in March after threatening to publicise his nude pictures, which the minor had sent to the girl in exchange for her pictures.
The teenager had received a friend request from a girl in January, after which he started chatting with her. The Samta Nagar police arrested the retired officer’s son Milind Shette on Friday for cheating the minor and sodomising him. The teenager’s mother had approached the police and registered a case against Shette. He has been remanded to police custody.
The mother had noticed that he was being quiet and keeping to himself off-late. When she asked him what the matter was, he tried to shrug it off but later broke down and told her about Shette.
According to officials, Shette, an unemployed software engineer, found the boy’s profile on the site through a list of mutual friends. As they kept exchanging messages in the forthcoming weeks, he received naked pictures of the girl. The ‘girl’ requested him to send his nude pictures to her and he complied, officials said.
“Shette created another fake profile of a boy. Using the new account, he messaged the teenager and told him that he has the objectionable pictures, which he would circulate. Threatening to malign him, Shette asked the boy to meet him,” said Fattesingh Patil, additional commissioner of police, north region.
Shette then called the boy to meet him in Thakur Complex in Kandivli (East), said an officer from Samta Nagar police station. The accused forced himself upon him and tried to sodomise him. In his complaint to the police, the accused had tried to sexually assault him twice and later sodomised him in March.
