The Shikshak Sena, teachers’ wing of the Shiv Sena has accused some schools under the Ryan International Group of getting students to pray against party MP Vinayak Raut, who has campaigned for a better deal for teachers of the institution.

When contacted, the group spokesperson said, “Even our children and their prayers are being scanned?... This whole thing is assuming ridiculous proportion and endorses our stand that we are being unfairly targeted by vested political interests and seems like all avenues are being leveraged to achieve the same.”

“Our prayer is: God forgive them,” the spokesperson said.

Teachers from the schools in Sanpada, Mira-Bhayandar, Vashi, Koperkhairane, Dahisar and Panvel submitted written complaints to the Shikshak Sena stating that at the school assembly, the heads of these schools asked students to read out prayers which maligned Raut. They have now demanded suspension of the heads of these schools and have threatened to take legal action against the school.

“The school holds a 20-minute assembly every day in which the national anthem, pledge and a prayer are recited. But, on August 5 for the first time, the headmistress of the school made students pray against a member of parliament,” read a complaint by a teacher from Sanpada.

“The prayer recited was that God should protect the school from anti-social elements such as Raut. The school and its management are facing a danger from such elements. God please don’t let their efforts become successful,” stated the complaint.

Another complaint from a teacher from St Francis High School, Bhayandar, which is also run by the same group, stated that such prayers were held in the school on August 4 and 5. “The headmistress made changes to the regular prayer recited in the school and mentioned Raut as an anti-social element in it,” the complaint read.

The schools had received showcause notices from the education department recently after the Shikshak Sena led by Raut had complained that the group was not paying its teachers sixth pay commission salaries and other dues.

JM Abhyankar head of the Shikshak Sena, said that they will take legal recourse against the school.
