A ‘selfie’ taken by the 25-year-old resident doctor from Sion Hospital, who was arrested by the police on Thursday afternoon for allegedly filming a woman doctor as she was about to bathe in the bathroom at the women’s hostel, may be strong evidence in the case, police said.

According to the police, Vipul Chowdhary, the doctor had clicked a photo of himself while mounting the camera on the partition between the bathroom and a common toilet.

“While switching on the video mode of his mobile phone, the doctor had accidently clicked an image of himself. He may have been checking the camera before placing it. The camera has captured his face, above his chin,” said an officer privy to the investigation.

“This could prove to be strong evidence in the case,” he added.

The accused was caught red-handed after the woman, 28, noticed a peculiar device on the bathroom wall. Police said the woman was about to bathe when she noticed the recording device in an opening above the wall.

Furious at the intrusion, the woman stormed out of the bathroom and banged on the toilet door. The woman managed to open the door and found the accused hiding inside the toilet, said police.

The police control room was immediately informed about the incident, after which police personnel reached the hostel and arrested Chowdhary. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and under the Information Technology Act. He was released on bail on Friday.
