A 20-year-old college student from Ulhasnagar and her family were attacked after she protested when harassed by four men on her way to college on Tuesday morning. The trouble started with one of the accused accosting her on the road and asking the woman for her telephone number. The woman initially tried to avoid the accused, but when he and his friends persisted in harassing her, she hit him with a sandal, said the police. Enraged, the man threw a stone at her.
The woman managed to evade her assaulters and on reaching home complained to her father, who is a businessman, and her younger brother. When the trio went back to the spot where the incident had occurred, the four men attacked them.
The police, however, were left reeling as both the accused and the survivor filed counter-complaints against each other.
The accused after assaulting the woman, her father and brother proceeded to the Ulhasnagar police station to register a non-congnisable case. While the woman’s family in turn met additional commissioner of police Sharad Shelar, east region. The ACP then ordered the police to register a molestation case against the four boys. “All the four accused have been arrested,” said Vasant Jadhav, DCP, Ulhasnagar division. The accused were identified as Rakesh Muliya, Bharat Sonawane, Sunil Survade and Manoj Gupta.
