Muslims in the city will be celebrating Eid-e-Milad, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, on Friday, with a range of activities, including charity and spreading the Prophet's teachings.

The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) started a campaign on January 19 called 'Muhammad for All' to create awareness about his life. "This campaign is to promote the teachings of the Prophet, and our aim is to reach out to about 10,000 people across the city through booklets and pamphlets about his life," said Feroz Patel, media secretary, JIH.

"We have been going door-to-door with the booklets and have also put up stalls at Mira Road, Jogeshwari and Andheri, among others," he said.

The Sunni Dawat-e-Islami has been conducting several programmes since last week, which was the beginning of the month of Rabi ul Awwal. On Thursday, the organisation conducted an ijtema (conference) in Bhiwandi. Around 30,000 Muslims attended the function, where speakers talked about 'Prophet as a mercy to all the worlds'.

"We have been organising poetry recital competitions based on the Prophet's life in several schools, madrassas and mosques," said Maulana Rizwan Khan, vice-president, Sunni Dawat-e-Islami.

The two organisations will also visit several city hospitals to distribute sweets and food to patients.
