My belongings, children’s dreams have been crushed, says victim

Around 1.15am on Monday, after finishing my work for the day, I was cycling towards my residence at Shastri Nagar in Santacruz (West). Throughout the day, I sell ice cream that I carry on my bicycle and return home by 2.30am. Monday was like any other day, or so I thought.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, I got thrown off my bicycle and landed on the road. I went blank for a moment. I could barely see. After some time, I heard people shouting and running towards me. Though I hadn’t been able to make out what had happened, I knew it wasn’t a something good.

After the incident I found that my clothes were torn. The money that I was carrying was lost and the ice cream from the box was spilled on the ground.

I had borrowed Rs 5,000 from a friend to take my wife and kids to our native place close to Agra. This trip was promised since five years. The money was meant fund the trip. Perhaps, someone had cashed in on the chaos.

The only thought in my mind was of my wife and two young children aged 12 and 8 who would be worried. My younger one’s voice was echoing in my ears.

A few unknown people helped me get up and started assembling my belongings. When I turned around, I saw a man trying to reverse a white car that was stuck on the divider. I then realised that I was hit by the car.

He had not only crushed my belongings, but my children’s dreams of meeting their grandparents too.
