A 54- year-old doctor allegedly committed suicide by jumping off his eleventh floor residence in Nagpada on Sunday. The deceased, Dr Naresh Waghela ran a private homeopathy clinic in Mumbai Central.

The police said Waghela, who resided in Navjeevan Society with his mother and family, was allegedly suffering from depression.

Sanjay Kadam, senior police inspector, Nagpada police station said that since it was a Sunday, Waghela had kept his clinic shut and was at home with his wife, three children and his mother.

“Around 2pm, when Waghela's family members thought he was asleep in his bedroom, neighbours alerted them saying he had jumped off the building and his body was lying in the compound,” said Kadam.

The family called the police and a patrolling mobile van reached the spot within seconds. They rushed Waghela to the JJ Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

The police searched his clothes and found a suicide note in the pocket of his shirt. The note stated that nobody was responsible for his suicide and he had taken this step on his own.

“He also mentioned that he was suffering from depression for the past three months, because of which he ended his life,” added Kadam.

The police have registered a case of accidental death. “We have taken statements of Waghela’s family who confirmed his depression,” said Kadam.
