A sailor in the Navy was arrested for allegedly molesting the wife of another sailor, at Navy Nagar on Tuesday. The Cuffe Parade police arrested the sailor and produced him before a local court, which remanded him in police custody for a day.

The complainant has alleged that she had approached the concerned department in the Navy, but they did not cooperate or take any action in the matter.

The incident occurred last week when the accused visited the woman’s residence, and allegedly molested her.

The accused, who is a sailor in the Navy, was a good friend of the woman’s husband, who also works in the Navy and used to visit the woman’s residence often to meet her husband.

The incident occurred on May 7, when the accused went to their place. But his friend was not at home.

When the woman brought him a glass of water, the accused tried to grab her hands, and then misbehaved with her, said a police officer.

The woman’s husband and the accused are both from the same village and were good friends.

On the basis of the woman’s statement, the police registered a case under section 354 of the IPC, for molestation, against the accused.

A police team was immediately rushed to his residence and he was taken into custody, said a police officer of the Cuffe Parade police station.
