Now before booking a flat or shop, you can visit the municipal corporation’s website to get information about the licence ownership or whether the building has all the requisite permissions.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has uploaded all data related to various licences of establishments such as trade, health and hoarding on its web portal.

The aim is to save time giving details through the Right To Information (RTI) Act.

If you wish to check if a nursing home has proper registrations and licences, log on to, click on Citizen Service option and select Data Look-up. “This can be called the first step to transparency of information,” said Aseem Gupta, additional municipal commissioner.

There are many construction projects coming up in the city and the information regarding licences of buildings will also be put up soon, said Gupta.

“We want people to know that the building in which they are buying a flat is legal or not. Uploading this data will take around a month’s time.”
When any information is updated in the BMC records, it will be simultaneously updated on the website too. “Since we had computerised our working, it will take no time in updating the information,” added Gupta.

Details like the name of owner, nature of business, address, number of employees will be displayed on the website.
