Following the death of two labourers at the monorail construction site in Chembur on Friday, the RCF police have registered a negligence case against the site engineer and site supervisor for the mishap on Saturday.
Two labourers were killed and three others sustained injuries after a girder that was being lifted on top the columns for the monorail track fell off.
Sanjay Shintre, deputy commissioner of police (zone 7) said, “We have registered a case under sections 304 (A), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) and 338 causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. We are yet to identify the site supervisors and engineers following which they will be arrested.”
Baldev Singh, 52 and Dinesh Kumar Lodh, 30, died after the girder fell on them while Jogasingh Deval, 30, Sushil Rathod, 23, and Gautam Kumar Lodh, 23, sustained grievous injuries. The injured were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital where they are recuperating.
The police further said the responsibility of the mishap would be on those who should have taken necessary precautions. No arrests have been made in the case so far. The civil construction work (column and girder launching for viaduct and stations) is being carried out by Larsen & Toubro.
