Five days after Sonali Bellur’s (14) body was found in a room in a Chembur chawl, the police arrested her neighbour Nagesh Ghallop (22) for allegedly raping and murdering her.
“Bellur left her house at 10 am on Friday, Ghallop dragged her into Room no 12,” said Police Inspector Prasad Dharia.
The room reportedly belongs to Ghallop’s neighbours who were in Delhi and had given his family a set of spare keys.
“After raping her, he dunked her head in a tub of water and banged her head against the floor, killing her,” said Dharia.
On Saturday, Arjun Guru, the victim’s uncle, found a sack in Room no 9. “As the body was found within the building
premises, we were sure that it was an insider job,” said Dharia. The probe led the RCF police to suspect Nagesh as he kept changing his statements. He has confessed to the crime, police said.
