A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Kandivali (West) on Saturday night when she was alone at her house.
The Kandivali police have arrested the accused, 28, who works at a factory in the Kandivali area. Police sources said the girl’s condition was stable on Sunday.
According to the police, the victim resides in Laljipada area, Kandivali (West), along with her parents and brother. The accused also lives in the same vicinity.
The incident occurred around 8.30pm on Saturday, when the girl’s parents had gone out and she was alone at home. The accused allegedly barged into her house and sexually assaulted her.
The incident came to light after the survivor’s brother came home around 9.30pm and found her crying in pain. The brother immediately informed their parents, who rushed back home.
The victim narrated the entire incident to her mother, after which her parents approached the Kandivali police station and registered a case there.
“Following the statement by the girl’s parents, and her preliminary medical report, which suggests that she was sexually assaulted, we registered a case against the culprit,” said M Pandharmise, senior inspector, Kandivali police station.
Pandharmise said a team of police officers was sent to the accused’s place and he was arrested under charges of rape.
