Nephew held for trying to kill woman

mumbai Updated: Sep 24, 2010 02:01 IST

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for assaulting his aunt, Sunita Shinde (60), and fleeing with her jewellery.

The Nirmal Nagar police said they suspected Shinde knew the accused because when they reached the spot they found food served on the table. On September 14, Santosh Jadhav (35) allegedly beat up his aunt with a bamboo and fled with her gold necklace and ring. Shinde, who was unconscious for several days, received 25 stitches. After she gave her statement to the police, Jadhav was arrested from his Thane home. The police said Jadhav had gone to meet a relative at KEM Hospital when he saw Shinde wearing ornaments. He then planned to rob her.

He started calling Shinde frequently and soon found out when her son and daughter-in-law would be at work and her grandson at school. “On September 14, Jadhav knew Shinde was alone at home and went to her Kherwadi residence,” said senior police inspector Prashant Bagade.

Jadhav has been arrested for attempt of murder.
