Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh denied ever meeting Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, who is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.
Congress leader Digvijay Singh had accused Rajnath of visiting Thakur in jail. “I never did that,” Rajnath said at a press conference on Saturday.
Rajnath demanded that Digvijay produce proof to back his claim. There should be an investigation into why [Digvijay] is making such untruthful statements,” Rajnath said.
The former BJP president also lashed out at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is said to have termed saffron terror a greater threat than Pakistan.
“By making such claims, Congress leaders are supporting Pakistan’s agenda and sabotaging the claims of its own government,” Rajnath said.
He said the Congress was responsible for the logjam in Parliament during the Winter Session as it took an undemocratic stand on the demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G scam.
“What is so sinister about the Opposition’s demand for a JPC probe? If the prime minister is ready to face the Public Accounts Committee, then why is he shying away from JPC?” asked Rajnath.
