Ramesh Dedhia — the stockbroker from Malwani whose bludgeoned body was found at Manori beach on Sunday — was allegedly murdered by his niece and her two friends as Dedhia had forced the minor girl into prostitution, the police said.

The niece, her lover Mohsin Khan, 25, and his friend Deepak Bhosle, 26, were arrested by the unit 11 of crime branch on Tuesday. According to the police, Dedhia got married to a bar dancer, Kiran, some years ago. He reportedly started exploiting his sister-in-law’s daughter sexually and pushed her into prostitution despite her protests. Since her mother and aunt could not do much, the girl allegedly hatched a plan to get rid of Dedhia.

On Saturday night, the girl called Dedhia to a spot near a dargah at Manori. “When Dedhia reached there, the trio stabbed Dedhia and later smashed his head with a rock,” said a crime branch source. They broke Dedhia’s cellphone into pieces which was later found near his body, he added.

The girl allegedly informed Kiran about the incident but she preferred to stay mum. When the crime branch officials went through the call records of Dedhia’s mobile phone, they grew suspicious about his niece. On questioning Kiran, she spilled the beans, sources said.
