No arrests in Mumbai so far in connection with Jama firing

Maharashtra Government on Wednesday said no arrests have been made so far in connection with Jama masjid firing in national capital.

Maharashtra Government on Wednesday said no arrests have been made so far in connection with Jama masjid firing in national capital.

"The city police have not arrested anyone here in connection with the Jama masjid firing case but we are in touch with the Delhi police if they need any information," Additional Chief Secretary, Home Chandra Iyengar said.

On the reports that the threat email was sent from suburban Borivali, Iyengar said investigation is on.

In order to maintain law and order situation in Maharashtra after Babri masjid verdict on September 24, the State Government has beefed up the the security in the state.

"It is obvious that security measures are necessary in the interest of country's peace. Also ahead of Commonwealth Games, a wrong message should not go out about the security," the official said.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has taken meetings with religious and political leaders and appealed them to maintain peace after the verdict, Iyengar said.

"We are not expecting any untoward incident but people may react emotionally on the verdict. So, we are trying our best to avoid any such incident," she said.

Para-military and Rapid Action Forces are already in city for Ganesh immersion and they would help in maintaining the law and order situation, the official said.

Usual alerts, naka bandi, checking would be conducted at the sensitive places, she said.
