The Congress has decided not to forge an alliance with the NCP — its ally in Maharashtra’s DF government — for the upcoming municipal corporation elections.
“We have decided to fight alone,” state Congress president Manikrao Thakre said on Saturday.
The decision is seen as a retaliation for the NCP joining hands with the BJP and Shiva Sena for the election of presidents and vice-presidents in the zilla parishads earlier this month. Latur, Parbhani, Malegaon, Bhiwandi and Chandrapur will go to polls on April 15.
State NCP spokesperson Madan Bafna said, “We don’t mind if the Congress goes solo. We have been with them whenever they wanted us.”
