Five days after an unidentified woman’s body was found in an empty local at Kalwa train yard, the Thane government railway police (GRP) are still to identify the woman.
On June 17, a railway protection force (RPF) constable found a woman with stab wounds on her chest in the general compartment.
No valuables or bag were found near the body.
Police officials said they were focusing on identifying the woman, who is in her twenties, to bring them closer to the motive of the murder and those involved in it. Five teams of the police scouted nearby slum areas and questioned several residents, railway stall vendors and known criminals, but failed to find a lead.
They have now alerted their informers to pass on any information that may help them identify the victim.
“We are still trying to trace her identity. We have sent messages on the interstate wire service. Since the train came from CST, we are going through CCTV footages of all the stations. The murder has taken place somewhere else and most probably not at the car shed,” said HS Jadhav, senior police inspector.
The police are also awaiting the chemical analysis report to ascertain whether she was raped or not.
The report is expected on Thursday.
