Schools will not be able to conduct any examinations between January and mid-March 2011, a new government resolution (GR) issued on Monday states.

While the GR will affect the Class 9 unit tests, school education minister Rajendra Darda said it would not affect the Class 10 (SSC) board exams scheduled to begin on March 1.

The GR has been issued in response to a circular sent by the census commissioner, C Chandramouli, stating that during the period of training and data collection, exams should not be held up to
Class 10.

Teachers from aided schools are usually recruited for the process.

“The new GR will not affect the SSC exams schedule,” said Darda.

Classes 1 to 8 will not be affected as from this year unit tests have been cancelled for these classes.

“Class 9 tests will have to be held earlier. But teaching will be affected if several teachers are recruited from schools for census duty,” said Father Francis Swamy, principal of Holy Family School in Andheri.
