While it is believed that the convicts in the 1993 blasts case will be taken to the Yerawada Central Prison in Pune after they surrender on Thursday, senior jail officials at the jail said they had not been informed by the government authorities.

Rajendra Dhamne, inspector general (IG) prisons, west region, said, “We should have been informed by Wednesday afternoon if they were planning to bring the prisoners here.”

A source at the jail, however, said that it was possible that only women and actor Sanjay Dutt may be sent here.

“Not all the accused will end up in one prison. They will be sent to different jails in the state,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Vinod Lokhande, IG prisons, southern region, confirmed that the 11 convicts who surrendered on Wednesday were currently lodged at the Arthur Road jail.

When asked if the convicts would be relocated to another prison, Lokhande said the decision would be taken on Thursday.

According to sources, the 34 who surrender on Thursday will be taken to Arthur Road, after which a decision will be taken on which prison they will be shifted to.

“Considering Arthur Road Jail is already overpopulated, and also houses some high-profile prisoners such Abu Jundal, the blast convicts will be shifted out soon,” a source said.
