Within a month, students can do a practice session of the Common Admission Test (CAT) online. The CAT website will also have a tutorial guiding students on how to go through the computer-based test. It will also be put up on You Tube.

CAT is the admission criteria to the elite IIMs, which will be held from October 27 to November 24. Last year, the test turned computer-based and was marred with technical glitches. This time, Prometric, the agency conducting the test, has taken extra measures to ensure a smooth examination.

This time the number of centres have been reduced from 104 to 78, and the number of computers from 17,000 to 9,000 and the testing window has been increased from 10 to 20 days. Tighter security measures have also been put in place in order to prevent proxy candidates from taking the test.

“While some candidates took the test last year, a different set of people reached the IIMs. At the final stages of selection, we match their fingerprints with the ones taken at the time of the CAT. So it’s easy to disqualify the proxy students,” said Soumitra Roy, MD, Prometric India.
