Actor Om Puri was on Wednesday granted interim protection from arrest till Friday in the case of assault filed by his wife last week.
Puri had on Tuesday moved an application for anticipatory bail.
On August 22, Nandita had approached the Versova police alleging that following an argument over the maintenance of their flat, Puri had assaulted her with a wooden stick.
The actor, however, denied the allegation in his bail application.
Puri stated that he had been residing separately since last three years, and gone to see his son at his residence.
Puri said their domestic help’s daughter offered rakhi to Puri’s son, and Nandita gifted her a mobile phone worth Rs 3,000. But the girl demanded a smartphone, to which he refused.
The actor said, Nandita then told him that he could spend huge amount of money on his “mistresses” but could not pay for this gift, which led to a heated argument.
Puri, the application said, got up to leave, but Nandita “walked up to him and caught his collar” and he had to push her off to leave the house.
Meanwhile, Nandita has also filed an application to intervene in the case. The sessions court would now hear the case on Friday.
