The four best friends who met with an accident at Peddar Road on Tuesday morning, that left one of them dead, were returning from a visit to a juice parlour at Nariman Point, said an officer from Gamdevi police station.

Shifa Sheikh, 16, and her friends Sania Deshmukh, 17, Mohsin Sheikh, 17, and Faizan Sardar, 19, were in the car when it spun out of control and hit a road divider at Cadbury junction on Peddar Road at 1.15 am. Shifa was killed on the spot, while the others were badly injured.

“We are yet to record the statements of the injured occupants of the car to find out what exactly happened,” said
Sanjay Diwadkar, senior police inspector of Gamdevi police station.

According to the police, Faizan’s car, a Honda City was reduced to scrap in the accident. “When we went to the spot of the accident, the car was completely mangled. We pulled the four out of the wreckage and took them to the hospital,” Diwadkar said.

While the Gamdevi police have lodged a case of rash and negligent driving, they are yet to arrest Faizan who was allegedly driving the vehicle. “The three survivors have suffered serious injuries and have been traumatised due to the mishap. We will decide on the matter of making an arrest after we record their statements and complete other formalities,” Diwadkar said.

Medical director, SK Mohanty, of Jaslok Hospital confirmed that Faizan and Mohsin were out of danger and recovering.

“Sania’s injuries are more serious and hence she has been kept under observation in the Intensive Care Unit,” Mohanty said.
