A 50-year-old woman succumbed to swine flu on Monday in a private hospital, taking the swine flu death toll since June to 12.

This is the fourth death in the city in July. The victim, who was a Goregaon resident, was suffering from diabetes.

Rain-related illnesses also claimed two lives in the city on Wednesday. A 34-year-old man from Dahisar succumbed to malaria on July 13. He was an alcoholic. A 37-year-old man from Dadar, who was diabetic, died of leptospirosis on July 12.

“The swine flu patient had been admitted to the hospital on June 9 and was put on Tamiflu from the next day after she was tested positive,” said Dr G.T. Ambe, executive health officer of the BMC.

Twenty-two others, including 10 children and one pregnant woman, tested positive for swine flu on Wednesday.

Civic hospitals also recorded 109 cases of gastroenteritis, one case of dengue and 129 cases of malaria on Wednesday.
