Vijay Palande was apparently planning to settle down in Barcelona with his German wife, Nibis Legenza and ex-wife Simran Sood with the wealth he amassed through crimes in Mumbai.

Despite having probed Palande for over a month, the police are yet to find any of his investments or savings in the city.

"Palande was leading a lavish lifestyle. He was paying over Rs. 50,000 as rent for his spacious apartment in Oberoi Springs in Amboli (where he lived with Simran Sood) and shopped from the best of boutiques. It was quite surprising that he had little or no savings or investments in the city," the officer said.

The police have learnt that Palande had opened a venture in hospitality and export/import business in Barcelona along with Legenza. Legenza, who is also into hospitality business had met Palande during the course of their business interaction.

"He probably invested whatever he had in the hospitality project in Barcelona."

The police have summoned Legenza from Germany for questioning, the officer added.

Palande may have planned to generate more money for his venture from the murders of Anuj Tikku and aspiring producer Karan Kakkad.

He would have fled to Bangkok for some time along with Simran Sood after killing Anuj Tikku. Months later, after things settled down, he would have returned to Mumbai, sold Anuj's properties and then flown to Barcelona with Simran and Legenza.

The police are yet to trace the documents of the properties, worth over Rs. 50 crore, willed to Anuj by his father Arun Tikku. It is feared that Palande has either already transferred the will to his name or forged it to his name.
