With a theme that commemorates the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samity will be celebrating their 65th annual Durga Puja this year. The samiti has decorated the pandal recreating Belur Math, headquarters of Ramkrishna Mission in Belur.
“The theme this year is homage to Swamiji but like every year our philosophy is to present a traditional puja for devotees,” said Debu Mukerji, secretary, North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja.
The mandal previously organized their annual Durga puja at Balkan-ji-Bariat Santacruz but has shifted their puja this year to Tulip Star Hotel.
“The 10-feet idol is made by artisans from Kolkata and our committee members personally take part in serving the bhog to devotees,” said Navnit Narayan, a member of the samiti. A diverse crowd of devotees are seen at the venue lining up for darshan.
“I am from Spain, I’ve visited around six pujas today but this was a beautiful experience,” said Patricia Conway, residing in Mumbai for the last four years. Vijay Kumar, a resident of Navi Mumbai says, “Today we got to experience their grand puja. I will try to attend this every year.”
Known for its vibrant entertainment programme, the puja has various events this year including music sessions by Bollywood singers. The samiti will also be streaming its live puja on their website.
