The online admission process for junior colleges in Maharashtra may be on its way out. The state education department has decided to review the process, which is in its third year, after receiving several complaints.

If the online process is dropped, students will have to go back to queuing up outside colleges, submitting admission forms and checking merit lists from the next academic year.

“A committee of experts will be appointed by the end of September. They will have a 15-day period to study the current process and recommend if we should continue with the online process or go offline,” education minister Rajendra Darda told HT.

According to Darda, the online process is ‘effective and transperant’, but ‘lengthy’. This year, the process ended on August 8. “If we can plug the lacuna that the online system has and make it hassle free, then we will be happy to continue with it. But if the committee thinks we should go back to the old system, then we will go to the offline system,” Darda said.
