A weekend break to catch the latest Bollywood release on Saturday afternoon resulted in a minor mishap for seven movie buffs - including a senior citizen - who were caught in a lift at a Mahim theatre for around ten minutes.
The incident took place at Citylight Theatre, located on LJ Road, when a passenger lift carrying around seven persons stalled mid-way.
In April this year, the single-screen theatre was reopened to the public after being shut for seven years for renovation. The theatre was originally built in 1942.
Authorities from Citylight Theatre claimed that it was only a minor incident. “The lift has a capacity of ten people, and there were only eight people in the lift. Thus, it wasn’t even overcrowded,” said Dhruva Kumar, theatre manager.
“The incident was only an outcome of a power trip. As soon as the security guard heard the cries of the people on board the lift when it stalled, he rushed to the ground floor where the main electric box is fixed,” said Kumar, adding it took not more than three minutes to rescue those trapped in the lift.
