It was panic and chaos at the premises of the Shri Vallabashram School, after news spread that a student, whose identity had not yet been disclosed, had met with an accident while on the school bus.

Locals said that several anxious parents, whose children studied in the primary section of the school and used the school bus, assembled near the school gate, enquiring if their child was safe.

When they got to know that the injured boy had been taken to the Sion hospital, many rushed to the hospital “Since Viraj had been rushed to the hospital immediately, even school authorities took time to find out the name of the student who met with the accident,” said a parent present at the school after news of the accident broke out. In the bus too, students on board, traumatized by the sight of blood oozing from Viraj’s ear, began to cry.

Some of them ran out of the bus as soon as it halted, said

investigating officer police sub-inspector T Adavatkar, adding that this made it tougher for them to ascertain which students were on board at the time of the incident.

When the school authorities finally learnt the identity of the student, parents were informed.

“When the incident occurred, the school had closed for the day. After we found out, we all went to the hospital,” said Rosy Singh, principal of the school.
