The city will have to face a water cut again on Monday and Tuesday as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carries out work on some main pipelines bringing water to the city. The worst affected will the eastern suburbs, where some parts will have a complete water cut, while some others will have a partial one. The rest of the city, meanwhile, will have a 20% water cut.
The areas worst-affected by the cut are Nahur (East), Bhandup (East), Kanjurmarg (East) and Vikhroli (East), where there will be no water on these two days.
This work will be carried out on the eastern express highway, between the Airoli junction to Kannamwar Nagar, in Vikhroli.
This is the second such water cut in the last fortnight. Parts of the eastern suburbs and the island city had to face a 20% water cut last week, for two days, because of similar pipeline work. This cut is necessary since the civic body wants to start using the newly laid 3,000mm main water supply pipelines and wants to connect them to the existing network.
Residents of these areas have stared bracing for the cut. “My son had read in the papers about the 100% supply cut in our area. Thankfully, we have water storage tanks in our house, so we will be able to manage somehow,” says Laxmi Bhimarao, 55, a Bhandup east resident.
Another Chembur resident, Vandana Shreedhar said, “I had read in the papers about it. Our society does not allow us storage tanks at home, so I guess we will have to fill the buckets and vessels at home with water for Monday and Tuesday,” said Shreedhar.
