Passengers of the Amritsar-Kochuveli Express stopped the train at Panvel railway station for more than 90 minutes on Monday afternoon after they were allegedly served stale food in the train.
Passengers complained that the chicken biryani had gone stale. Sources said this was because the refrigerator was not working.
The train arrived at Panvel station at 12.40 pm and finally pulled out at 2.12 pm.
Around 1.20 pm, passengers caught hold of the food contractor, OP Singh, and handed him over to the railway police.“Passengers complained to us that stale food was being served to them,” said Prakash Salvi, senior police inspector of Panvel railway police station. “We spoke to the three officials from the pantry car and they assured us good quality food would be served henceforth.”
However, neither the Central Railway nor the Konkan Railway was willing to take responsibility for what happened. A K Singh, central railway public relations officer (PRO), said: “You should contact Konkan Railway on the issue as it does not fall under our jurisdiction.” But Sunil Kamble, Konkan Railway PRO, claimed the matter did not fall under their jurisdiction either.
