Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was discharged from Breach Candy Hospital on Thursday morning.
He had undergone a surgery for removal of a benign growth in his mouth on Wednesday afternoon.
"He was fit so we discharged him at 8.30 am," said General Vijay Krishna, CEO of the Breach Candy Hospital.
The Nationalist Congress Party chief had been diagnosed with an infective granuloma (an inflammatory growth due to an infection) in the oral cavity. The granuloma was removed under general anaesthesia by onco-surgeon Dr Sultan Pradhan.
Tests conducted before and after the surgery revealed that the growth was cancerous.
