The .6mm Belgian make pistol used by Asha Bhosle’s daughter, Varsha, 56, to shoot herself in the head could have been the one which the singer had lost almost 30 years ago, suspect police.

Varsha was found dead at Bhosle’s flat in Prabhukunj building on Peddar Road on Monday morning. She allegedly had the pistol in her right hand with a finger on the trigger. The ownership of the weapon has still not been ascertained.

According to the police Asha Bhosle had a gun license, which was revoked after she reported that the gun was lost.

“During the course of investigation, we learnt that Asha Bhosle had lost her weapon long time ago. We have procured the relevant documents of that weapon and are in the process of ascertaining if the weapon used by Varsha is the same one,” said a police officer.

“The pistol used by Varsha did not belong to her brother Anand or uncle Hridaynath, who hold gun licences. Asha’s lost weapon was similar to the pistol used by her daughter,” said a source.

The police, on Tuesday, recorded the statements of house help Deepali Mane and driver Vijay Nakashe. The police will also record the statement of Usha Mangeshkar, Asha’s sister.

Meanwhile, the autopsy report has revealed that Varsha died of shock and hemorrhage after she shot herself with the pistol.

The police stated that she took the extreme step at around

12.30 am on Monday, while having her dinner and watching television. She had ordered Chinese food from a nearby eatery that night.

Asha Bhosle, along with her other family members, was at Singapore to attend an award function. She returned to Mumbai on Monday night.

The last rites on her body were performed at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Girgaum on Tuesday morning.
