The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Monday lodged a complaint with the Mumbai police's cyber crime cell over fake accounts on Twitter in the name of party chief Raj Thackeray's daughter.
Rumours were abound that Urvashi Thackeray, MNS chief's daughter, had put out a controversial and defamatory tweet on Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar. The account also featured Urvashi's photo and had several other controversial tweets about various political leaders and organisations.
The account was also linked to another similar account in the name of Thackeray's son, Amit, which incidentally, featured his cousin and the Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's son, Aditya's photo. This account also had similar defamatory tweets about Dr Ambedkar.
The MNS leaders said that the accounts were fake. "No one from Raj Thackeray's family are on any social networking sites. Hence, we have asked the cyber cell to lodge an investigation and find out who these miscreants are and take action against them," a leader close to Thackeray said.
"This is utter lie. My daughter Urvashi is recovering from an accident. She will never write such insensitive tweet," said Raj's wife Shamila Thackeray.
