Four persons were arrested in two separate incidents recently for possessing illegal firearms. The Wagle Estate crime unit, which made the arrests, also seized four foreign-made pistols and two revolvers from their possession.

The crime unit laid a trap at Korum Mall on October 22 and arrested Santosh Jadhav, 34, and recovered a foreign-made pistol and two cartridges from him.

“On the information provided by Jadhav, we arrested the main accused Shaji Nair, 38, from Kalwa. Two pistols, one revolver and three cartridges worth Rs 1.75 lakh were seized from him,” said additional commissioner of police (crime) Dhananjay Kamlakar on Tuesday.

“Nair is a wireman by profession. We seized four mobile phones and several credit cards from him,” Kamlakar added. In another instance, Mohammed Khan, 26, and Shekhar Thakur, 28, were arrested on October 18 and two revolvers and four live rounds seized from them.

“Constable MN Sonawane had received information that two persons will be coming at Kapurbawdi Naka to sell firearms,” Kamlakar said.

“Khan was in debt and so he thought of buying firearms cheap from Bihar and sold them at a higher price here,” he added.
