The Nalasopara police, on Sunday, arrested a Nigerian national who, with two accomplices, stabbed a 22-year-old youth to death after he denied them money to buy alcohol.
The Nalasopara police said the deceased, Rahul Singh, who was an electrician, lived at Manoshi Apartments near Alkapuri Road in Nalasopara.
Singh was friends with the accused Nigerian nationals, who were in the country on a work visa and lived at Khushboo Apartments, Nalasopara. Singh would regularly visit them at their house, an official said.
The police said the incident took place around 11.30pm on Saturday when the three Nigerians and Singh were drinking alcohol. The police said the Nigerians asked Singh for money to buy some more alcohol. When he refused, they attacked him in a fit of rage.
“The trio got into a scuffle with Singh, following which one of them grabbed a pair of scissors lying nearby and stabbed the youth in his stomach. They then abandoned Singh in the apartment and fled,” the official added.
The Nigerians’ neighbours were alerted by the commotion and found Singh lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to a private hospital nearby, but was declared dead on arrival, having suffered grievous internal injuries.
“We have arrested Oko Buwa Gabrian, 22, while his two accomplices are absconding. The trio have been booked under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway,” said Arvind Chowdhary, inspector, Nalasopara police station.
