The Kasturba Marg police, on Saturday, arrested a 39-year-old man for fleecing truck drivers by claiming he was an octroi officer.

The accused, Krushna Surve, would take money from drivers who did not possess the necessary vehicle documents. According to the police, Surve would stop heavy vehicles travelling on inter-city assignments.

“We received complaints from the truck drivers about the octroi officer troubling them in the past,” said an officer from Kasturba Marg police station.

On Saturday, a driver sensed something amiss when he was being interrogated by Surve and informed the police control room, following which Surve was arrested by the Kasturba Marg police. He has been booked him for impersonating a public servant and cheating.
