The Maharashtra Government, which has procured high end weapons for its police department as part of a modernisation drive following the Mumbai terror attacks, will soon equip its force with Night Vision Binoculars (NVB).
The process to procure the hands-free instruments, which will make distant object appear close, was on and the devices would be made available to the police force in a couple of months, Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe said.
"The devices will help our security agencies to clearly see long distant objects. During patrolling along the coastline or fighting the terrorists in darkness, the policemen can make use of these devices to counter the enemy effectively," he added.
The devices, having a lens Field Of View (FOV) of at least 45 degrees, can detect a man sized object at distance of minimum 350 meters.
Built in Infrared Illuminator for effective viewing in total darkness, the instrument weighed 0.45 kg and has higher general resolution.
