A day after Hindustan Times carried a report about a 23-year-old freelance photographer from Sewri who had been manhandled after she stood up to two men who cat-called and harassed her, the police claim to have identified the duo.

Monisha Ajgaonkar told HT that she had jotted down the registration number of the bike the duo were riding and also recollected how they looked. However, the police had not been able to track down the accused even a week later.

When HT spoke to the RAK Marg police, police sub-inspector, Ghadge said that they had only taken a non-cognisable offence and not filed an FIR. Hence the case would not be investigated further. However, additional commissioner Pravin Salunkhe said he would ask for details.

When contacted on Friday, deputy commissioner of police (zone 4), Keshav Patil told HT, “We have identified the boys who manhandled her and had called her for confirmation. However, since she not in the city, we will have to wait till she returns. Once she identifies them, necessary action will be taken.”

When contacted, Monisha Ajgaonkar confirmed that she was not in Mumbai. “I was shaken by the incident and have been unable to concentrate on my work ever since it took place. I needed to get out and relax. I will return on Monday.”
