Police stations across the state have been put on high alert to trace Arun Borude, encounter specialist and senior police inspector of LT Marg police station, accused of raping a 15-year-old girl from Powai earlier this year.
Earlier this month, Powai police arrested one Shanta Gaikwad who is accused of forcing the teenaged girl into prostitution. There was suspicion regarding the involvement of a police officer and an estate agent who were both mentioned as unidentified accused in the complaint initially.
Joint police commissioner (law and order), Rajneesh Seth later confirmed that Borude had been mentioned as an accused in the case and the local police were on the lookout for him. Borude’s name had been added to the case diary as an accused, sources confirmed.
The senior police officer was named as an accused in the case as per details of call records, as well as the identification of the flat in the Kondivita area of Andheri where the 15-year-old victim was allegedly raped, said an officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to talk to the media.
A team from the Powai police accompanied fingerprint experts and a dog squad to the fourth floor flat of Emerald Court building at Kondivita to find some evidence that would help them identify the accused. Borude also owned a flat in the same building added police sources.
The incident had come to light after Powai police arrested Shanta Gaikwad, 40, a housemaid from the Powai area on November 2. The family members of the victim had registered a complaint against Gaikwad after finding out that the victim was four months pregnant.
When her family members questioned the victim, she told them about how Gaikwad had lured her into the flesh trade. The Powai police suspect Gaikwad was running a prostitution racket in the area and had lured other minors from the Filterpada area of Powai as well.
